Radiology clinics operate in 42 communities across Alberta, including 38 rural communities. For most Albertans, that means a clinic close to home. A patient in a small town can get an ultrasound, mammogram, or X-ray without driving hours to a city. A family in Edmonton or Calgary can book at a community clinic instead of waiting in a hospital queue.
When radiologists are active in a community, the whole system runs better. Patients get care faster, hospitals stay focused on emergencies and the sickest patients, and Albertans in small towns get specialist care closer to home.
From referral to results
A physician, often a family doctor, refers a patient to a clinic for their scan. A trained imaging technologist operates the equipment and performs the exam. The radiologist reviews the images, writes the report, and sends the findings to the referring physician, who follows up with the patient on the results.
